A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Taimako Community Development Initiative (TCDI) has donated drugs and other medical consumables worth millions of naira to the Yobe State Government through the Ministry of Health and Human Services.
The drugs and consumables are meant to complement the efforts of the government in the first care for survivors of Gender Based Violence (GBV) in the focal LGA’s health facilities where the NGO is working in the state.
While handing over the drugs and consumables to the State Government, Executive Director of TCDI, Gambo Garba Muhammad who was represented by the Head of Administration, Ibrahim Umar, revealed the support is a way of appreciating what the government is doing to provide effective and efficient healthcare service delivery in the state.
He revealed that TCDI is a national non-governmental organisation and has been intervening in different spheres of community development in Yobe and North Eastern states.
Muhammad disclosed that at present, “TCDI is partnering with Christian Blind Mission (CBM) with funding from BMZ to implement a livelihood, WASH, GBV and mental health project across four LGAs of Yobe state, Fune, Geidam, Potiskum and Yunusari.
“The project is focusing on food security and livelihood, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) as well as Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support (MHPSS) in addition, resources will be counteracted and prevented by promoting income generation and food security measures.
“The psycho-social needs of particularly marginalised groups such as survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), Disability-Based Violence (DBV) and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) will be addressed and served separately through dialogue formats.”
This, he said is being implemented in the four North Eastern states of Borno, Adamawa, Yobe and Taraba, in close co-operation with the relevant MDAs within the state.
The MDAs are Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA), Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Rural Water Supply and Sanitation, Ministry of Women Affairs, Ministry Youth, Sport and Social Development, State Primary Health care Management Board and State Ministry of Health and Human Services.
Speaking during the presentation of the items, the Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Health, Abdullahi Muhammed Jawa, expressed government’s appreciation for the support and thanked the TCDI for the kind gesture.
Muhammad Jawa added that it has come through the goal gate of the health sector in the state and assured TCDI of fair delivery and use of the drug to the designated health facilities across the state.
