Former Vice President Ekwueme cautions PDP against failure in 2019

FORMER Vice President, Dr Alex Ekwueme has cautioned the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against a repeat of their failure in the 2015 presidential election, urging them to resuscitate internal democracy in the party ahead of the 2019 general polls.

Chief Ekwueme gave the advise while receiving members of the Strategy Review Committee of the PDP who presented a copy of the final report of the committee to him at his Enugu residence on Wednesday.

The Elder-statesman noted that it was lack of internal democracy that caused the party’s downfall in the last general elections, advising members of the committee to genuinely reconcile with aggrieved members of the party especially those who left for other political parties.

Dr Ekwueme, one of the founding fathers of the party, expressed sadness that the party opened it’s doors to some people who did not know how it was formed to hijack it.

Speaking shortly before presenting the report of the committee to Ekwueme, the Leader of the delegation, Alhaji Aminu Wali, noted that impunities and flagrant disobedience to party’s guidelines contributed to a large extent in PDP lost to the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the last general elections at the Centre.

Alhaji Wali said that his committee was saddled with the responsibility of reviewing all aspects of the party to determine areas where changes needed to be done.

Addressing newsmen, Alhaji Wali, said their meeting with the ex-Vice President was fruitful, adding that PDP will be re-branded to return to the vision of its founding fathers.

He further averred that the PDP was already a mega party, whose presence is noticeable in every ward and village in country, stressing that Nigerians were already yearning for the party.

Also speaking, a member of the delegation and founder of DAAR Communication, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, said that PDP was meant for all Nigerians.

He apologized to Nigerians on the areas they failed to meet their expectations, declaring that PDP is now a born again party poised to win the 2019 general elections at all levels.

According to him, “PDP is one solid party. There is no faction in PDP.”
