Former governors to host North-Central security summit

North Central Peoples Forum (NCPF), on Tuesday, announced that it has concluded plans to hold a security summit for the zone before the end of June.

At a press briefing in Abuja, Dr Tunde Olusunle, Chair, Publicity sub-committee and Director General of NCPF respectively said the summit would draw participants from security and intelligent agencies including members of civil society the private sector.

According to them, former governors who had served as chief security officers of their states and other senior citizens from the zone like former Governor of Nassarawa State, Alhaji Tanko Almakura, former FCT Minister, Senator Jerry Useni, former governor of Kwara State, Mr Abdulfatah Ahmed.

Others are former governor of Plateau and Katsina states, Major General Lawrence Onoja, former deputy president of the Senate, Ibrahim Mantu, former chief of staff to the vice president, Mr Sola Akamode are some of the brains behind the summit.

NCPF explained that the members are worried about the incessant killings by armed foreign bandits and kidnappings in the zone.

As those occupying the central region of the country, the Forum explained that North-Central must be a peace haven and must provide security for their people so that Nigeria will remain united.

“We don’t believe in the disunity of this country.

“Once the centre is not holding, everywhere will be scattered. We have men that are committed to the unity of Nigeria.

“NCPF came to be as a unifier of the North-Central. The zone has security challenges. Niger State like Benue State is in the news almost every day for kidnappings, ransom taking and other terrible things.

“Just a few days ago in Plateau State, a retired assistant inspector general of police was murdered. This is not the way we were; this is not the way we want to continue. Nigeria was relatively safer in times past.

“It is for reasons like these that the NCPF considered it imperative to host the security summit to discuss the goings-on in the zone. It will aggregate the views of stakeholders in the security and intelligence sectors to see how we can mitigate and ameliorate what we have been facing in the zone.

And as the zone that is not dominated by any particular religion or tribe NCPF also urged other Nigerians to give the North-Central an opportunity to produce President for Nigeria in 2023.

They will definitely unite every part of the country.
