Foreign companies must employ more Nigerians —Saraki

Published by

SENATE President, Dr Bukola Saraki, has decried the low number of Nigerian workers in the employment of Emirates Airline, noting that companies operating in the country must employ Nigerians.

Saraki, in his Twitter handle @bukolasaraki, said it had become important to ask “why only 10 Nigerian air host/hostesses work for Emirates,” saying that the Senate would work to ensure that foreign entities operating in the country hire more Nigerians, as that would be important for the country’s domestic growth

The Senate President stated that he was sure that at the time Emirates Airlines started its route in the country, Nigeria did not get a good deal for its people, noting that “it is time to look into this.”

“Considering the size of Nigeria and its market, I would have expected more. Foreign airlines and companies need to hire more Nigerians. I gathered that in countries like Kenya, Emirates Airlines employs close to 1,000 Kenyans in their workforce,” Saraki said.

The former governor also encouraged Nigerians with information that could help better the plight of Nigerians to let the Senate know.
