For Nigeria to develop, informal sector must complement formal sector ― Ngige

The Minister for Labour and employment, Dr Chris Ngige, on Thursday, stated that the formal sector needs to be complemented with the informal sector which is the driving force of most developing countries economies, adding that one of the ways this can be achieved is through training the youths to contribute to the socio-economic development of the nation through job creation.

Ngige made this known in Ibadan while flagging off the South-West youth training on vocational skills at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment in Ibadan.

The minister represented by Barrister Amos Johnson supported by the Southwest Zonal Director, Mr Nnamdi Enuah and the Oyo State Controller, Mr Clement Fatoki, explained that the training initiative which is the last of all training carried out across all the six geopolitical zones of the nation resonates with the present administration’s commitment to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty within 10 years and ensure youth inclusiveness in its plans and programmes.

According to him, the training series marks the commencement of a new initiative by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment to promote skills development, adding that it is the first of its kind by the ministry since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999.

“It is an indication of the government’s commitment to providing solutions to the problems of unemployment, poverty and crime in our nation. It will further provide relevant resources and incentives for the development of skills, entrepreneurship and enterprise necessary for national growth.

“This training complements the conventional skills development training available at our existing centres spread across the six geopolitical zones. Federal Government’s development policies, particularly in the areas of economic stability, industrialisation and enhanced social inclusion has shown their commitment to improving the standard of living of its citizenry,” Dr Ngige said.

While charging the beneficiaries and their trainers, Barrister Amos Johnson, told the trainers to speak the language understood by their trainees, mark attendance, come down to their level, teach them to start business immediately in a small way and show them the path to independence without being harsh because people have different levels of comprehension.

Also speaking, the Southwest Zonal Director, Mr Nnamdi Enuah, said it is important to note that skills development is now viewed as an important component in addressing youth unemployment and in promoting economic growth in general, urging participants to make it a point of duty to take full advantage of the opportunity since it is free.

In a thank you message, the beneficiaries represented by Fadare Aderonke, expressed gratitude to the president and promised to use the skill and be useful members of the society.

The Dangers In Mixing Toilet Cleaner With Bleach

Few weeks ago, Eniola Oyemolade, a journalist, decided to get creative while cleaning, by mixing a toilet cleaner and a bleach together. She did this with the thought that if one product works, mixing it with another would make it even better.

Unknowing to her, Mixing bleach with toilet cleaner creates a poisonous gas that can cause adverse health reactions, including death.

“After the mixture, I started feeling a burning sensation in my throat and I had to leave the room because the odour was really bad too,” she said.
