Food Quest launches to preserve African foods

Published by

FoodbayTV, an African food TV platform, has debuted a digital food show, Food Quest to reintroduce African food that is on the verge of extinction to youth.

The first-of-its-kind show aims at preserving African culture by giving Generation Z an increased opportunity to experiment with different indigenous foods and share their reviews.

The youth-centred programme will be streamed on multiple digital platforms and hosted by renowned food critic Opeyemi Famaki.

The launch of the show had the gathering of young people who danced, dined, and enjoyed the event.

Speaking on the initiative, co-founder of Foodbay TV, Oluwafemi Ogundoro said the show was launched to revitalise authentic African culture in the younger generation through local food.

“Food Bay TV is filled with a lot of Gen Z, and many of them don’t even know the basic things we take for granted. If you’re a millennial or baby boomer, you realise there are certain things we just take for granted that everyone should know. But they don’t know those things as simple as cashew fruits, abacha salad, dambonama, kilishi, or Ikokore because they were born in Lagos or Ibadan and they’ve not had the opportunity to travel around the states,” Ogundoro said.

According to him, checking the recent African demographic shows that about 65 per cent of the population is under 25, which is Generation Z.

“If more than 50 per cent of our population is Gen Z, and there is no major show that is focused on those guys in terms of food, then Food Bay TV has to be the first to do that again. And that’s exactly what we’re doing, and this would be the first of many other shows that would be developed for this particular target audience,” Ogundoro added.
