FOMWAN seeks increased funding for child, family health

THE Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) has appealed to the Oyo State government to increase its budgetary provision for child and family health.

The state Amirah of FOMWAN and the team leader for the Partnership for Advocacy for Child and Family Health (PACFaH), Alhaja Simiat Ogundiran, made the appeal during an advocacy visit to the Commissioner for Finance and Budget, Mr Abimbola Adelakun.

Alhaja Ogundiran noted that increased government intervention was needed in the areas of routine immunisation, nutrition, child killer diseases, especially pneumonia and diarrhea, as well as child spacing.

She, therefore, urged the government to release the necessary funds in time for appropriate use.

In his response, the Director of Administration and Supply, Mr Richard Akintola, who represented the commissioner, gave the assurance of the government’s support for PACFaH’s project.

Moreover, he advised that other stakeholders in the state like the Ministry of Health be visited once again for the overall success of the campaign.

Representatives of faith-based and civil society organisations were part of the visit to the ministry.
