FMC Bida to install computerised thermography scan machine

The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Bida, has said it had concluded plans for the installation of a Computerised Thermography (CT) scan machine to ease procedures for operations of patients and other related illnesses.

The Medical Director of the centre, Dr Mohammad Aminu Usman, who stated this while addressing journalists in Bida, said that three consultants on radiology were already on ground for the operation of the machine.

Usman said that the CT Scan machine, along with its installation and training of workers as well as configuration of the room, would gulp N152.5 millions.

The medical director stated further that all the facilities and systems in the centre were in good working condition, highlighting that there was no high rate of neonatal and infants mortality in the hospital.

He, however, debunked a social media report purportedly written by one of its doctors which stated that the system in the Federal Medical Centre had worsened in the past two weeks leading to high rate of death cases.

Usman described the article by the unknown doctor as malicious and meant to damage the image of the hospital.

He stressed that though there might have been a drop in power supply in Bida, the medical centre ran its activities on alternate power supply using its generator sets contrary to the claims by the doctor that doctors brought along small generators to light up certain parts of the hospital.

“The management of Federal Medical Centre Bida is up and doing and the facilities are working perfectly well. We produce our own water, we have an oxygen plant and the centre has never lacked oxygen. Despite the problem of power supply, we have gone the extra mile to give our clientele the best services,” he maintained.

Usman stated that claims that the hospital should be renamed a ‘mortuary’ because of the high rate of death cases was malicious and false, adding that in the past few weeks, the hospital had conducted 15 successful surgeries despite its constraints.

The Head of Neonatal Unit said that the unit recorded four deaths out of 30 admitted patients in June, adding that the deaths were not due to lack of oxygen, light or negligence.

She said that newly born babies, who weighed less than one kilogramme, were not handled well and that they were brought in very critical conditions.
