FMC, Abeokuta acquires CT machine

Published by

The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi-Aba, Abeokuta has acquired an ultra-modern Computerised Tomography (CT) Machine worth N240 million in furtherance of its efforts to make specialised health care services available to its patients.

The procurement of the 64 slices CT machine followed the purchase and installation of a digital X-Ray machine and Endoscopy facilities.

A computerised tomography (CT) scan combines a series of X-ray images taken from different angles around the body and uses computer processing to create cross-sectional images (slices) of the bones, blood vessels and soft tissues inside the body. CT scan images provide more detailed information than plain X-rays do.

FMC’s medical director, Professor Adewale Musa-Olomu, said the hospital took the step to relieve the inconveniences and stress of moving patients to places outside Abeokuta where such facilities are available.

“One of the things we are doing is to ensure that this place is upgraded into a world-class standard, and one of the areas that we are focusing on is our radiology department, though we are not leaving any of the specialities behind,” he stated.

He said the newly installed 64 slices CT machine can scan any part of the body.

Professor Musa–Olomu assured that construction work would soon start at the site of the proposed University of Medicine and Medical Sciences having secured a $750 million dollars investment pledge towards the realization of the project.

He said, “By the special grace of God, we will finally get the university’s law, brief and the master plan this month.

“The planning and the transition committee will be inaugurated at the end of this month and they will swing into action. Investors are still willing to invest $750 million into this project.

“We are not looking back at all, we are adamant on establishing this university, it is something that eluded us some 71  years ago when the University of Ibadan was to be established  here.”
