Flooding: Bafarawa donates N50m to Borno govt

Former Sokoto Governor and one-time Presidential candidate, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, has donated N50 million to the Borno Government for victims of the Alau Dam flood disaster.

Bafarawa who was a former Presidential Candidate presented the donation through the Attahiru Bafarawa Foundation when he paid a sympathy visit to Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno in Maiduguri on Friday.

Foundation’s Chairman, Malam Lawal Maidoki, told the Newsmen that prayers were offered for the souls of those who lost their lives and speedy recovery for the injured as well as those who lost their properties.

Maidoki said Bafarawa also urged for more support from organisations and philanthropists to the government and people of Borno to facilitate the recovery process.

He described the incident as destiny and urged victims to consider it as a test and pleaded to authorities for proper mitigation as well as adequate measures to prevent future occurrences.

According to him, Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno State thanked for support and described the visit as a demonstration of brotherhood, love and human concern for the disasters that affected hundred of people, their shelters and economic activities.

The delegation on Bafarawa’s visits included the Foundation’s Chairman, Malam Lawal Maidoki, Secretary, Alhaji Sagir Bafarawa, Alhaji Aminu Babba, Alhaji Sani Gwaram and U. U Shehu.

Recalled that Bafarawa on Wednesday floated a Foundation set aside N1 billion for its routine operations to support the needy as well as focus on water supply, education, health and empowerment, among other key areas of dire need.
