Flood sacks Ondo community

Over 1000 residents of Ayetoro community in the Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo state, have been rendered homeless following a ravaging flood that submerged the community after torrential rain.

Several homes were said to have been ravaged by the flood following a two-day persistent rain which has sacked almost all people in the community.

Speaking on the development, a resident of the community, Mr. Emmanuel Aralu, who explained that the flood has left many of the residents homeless as their property had been submerged by the flood.

According to him, the heavy rain which resulted in flooding in the area where about 100 houses were affected saying no fewer than 700 people had been displaced.

Aralu who noted that economic activities had been paralyzed as most of the people of the community who engage in fishing had abstained from the river and the ocean while most shops had been destroyed.

He said that the only church in the town, the palace, health center, and schools were all affected by the flood saying some residents had fled the coastal community because of the development.

Also speaking, one of the residents affected by the flood, Mrs Margaret

Ogunyemi lamented that flooding had been a recurrent problem in the area, alleging subsequent  government in the state of being insensitive to the plight of the people in the area

According to the government had not been fair to the people of the community over the years and wondered why they should be abandoned in their time of need.

She said most of the residents noted that the villagers could not relocate from their homes due to lack of access roads as the earth roads in the communities were flooded, saying,  the people have resorted to the use of canoes in accessing their houses.

“We need help from the government before the flood washes the community away, the state and federal governments should come to our aid.

“The health center, palace, schools, shops and most houses here are flooded, we have been held in a place for days”

Those are the health center are swimming in the water and its difficult.
