Flood: Borno govt to support victims outside official IDP camps

The Commissioner of Information and Internal Security, Usman Tar, disclosed this in an interview with Nigerian Tribune in Maiduguri on Sunday.
According to Tar, a committee has been constituted to assess the damage and provide necessary assistance to those affected.
“The situation is dire, and we are leaving no stone unturned to respond to the needs of affected communities,” Tar said.
The committee, he added, has commenced distribution of relief materials, including food, shelter, and essential items to displaced persons in Maiduguri and Jere Local Government Areas (LGAs), where the flooding has severely impacted socioeconomic activities.
Tar, however, noted that the full extent of the damage remains unknown, as reports of missing persons and unrecovered bodies continue to emerge.
“We urge those not in official camps to register with the committee to receive necessary support,” he appealed.
The floods have displaced thousands, destroying homes, infrastructure, and farmlands, leaving many without access to basic necessities.
The state government’s decision to aid victims outside official camps has been hailed as a welcome development, as many struggle to survive without support.
As the situation continues to unfold, the government’s response will be crucial in determining the fate of those affected.
