It was a weekend to remember for students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) as the popular youth-oriented music concert organised by Nigeria’s foremost telecommunications company, Globacom, thrilled fun-seekers for hours on Friday night.
Highly sought after stars, Flavour, Korede Bello and Runtown took turns to treat the students and other members of the university community to the best of their songs at the Ekpo Convention Centre of the highly rated university.
Compered by one of Nigeria’s funniest comedians, Gordons, the concert moved very quickly from one level of excitement to the other while the students lapped it all up and roared for more.
It was however not just music and comedy.There was also an opportunity for students to vie for cash prizes in a beauty pageant. Ten students of the school won cash prizes of between N50,000 and N100,00 in the Glo Campus Data Dude and the Glo Campus Data Diva pageants in a night filled with multi-dimensional fun. The winners are also in contention to win a scholarship worth N1million at the grand finale of the contest.
The fun of the night commenced with a dancing competition which saw students doing their best to outdo one another on the dance floor.
A 200 level student of Political Science, Ibekwe Chinedu, beat his colleagues to the top slot, followed by Ugochukwu Victoria of the Department of Theatre arts. Chubuike David Ejiofor, a year one student of Agric Economics placed third. Another outstanding dancer who lost out in the top three positions, Otubo Vivian Uche of the Department of English Language, got wild applause from the audience for her troubles.
There was also a chance for up and coming stars to show the stuff they were made of. Some of these include Kelwizz, Kris Jay, Mareez, Wills, Mandy, Chido Keys, Sinopizi and Zee Rawkpokpo. They also got the approval of their colleagues and pat on the back from their friends.
Marvin Record protégée, Korede Bello, opened the floor for the stars. He thrilled the audience with his popular numbers Adaobi, Mungo Park, Everybody Come Close, Baby Romantic, andGod Win. Korede spiced up his performance with cash gifts to some of the students.
The tempo of the show increased with the entrance of Runtown, with his ‘Show me the receipt’ track. He followed up with other numbers such as E Don Hamma, Walahi, De Boi, Bend Down Pause and Lagos to Kampala.
Highlife sensation, Flavour, closed the concert in a blaze of glory, throwing the students into wild excitement. With his versatile band, he belted out his popular tunes beginning withProfessor Johnbull soundtrack, ‘Erudite Professor’ through Waka waka, to Ada Ada, among others.
At the end of the beauty pageant, Eneboa Valentine was crowned Glo Campus Data Dude with a cash prize of N100, 000 and Ifediora Chimdindu was crowned Glo Campus Data Diva also with the same cash prize. Eight other students, comprising four boys and four girls, also won N50, 000 each.
Earlier, while welcoming the students, Globacom’s Head of Operations, South-South, Mr. Enekwachi Aja, said that the show was organised to reward the youth segment of Globacom and encourage them to tap into the world of opportunities available for them to win scholarship worth N1 million by using the Glo Campus Booster Data services.
Abia State University, Uturu, is the next destination of the show on Friday, November 18, 2016.
