Fix power sector for Nigeria’s survival, Cleric urges FG

Published by

FOR Nigeria to survive as a developing nation, the Federal Government has been urged to fix the power sector.

Giving the advice at the 26th Annual Synod of Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Remo, which was held at the Methodist Church, Ilisan-Remo, Ogun State recently, the Diocesan Bishop, The Rt. Revd Titus Ilori Omoniyi, noted that currently, businesses depend on generating sets to survive in Nigeria.

Omoniyi, however, wondered for how long a nation of over 170 million people would survive on individual generating set?

“Let the Federal Government make solar energy affordable to common people,” he advised; adding that “Solar energy is widely used all over the world today,” and its provision would enable “small private companies to operate at reduced cost of energy.”

The man of God also urged the Federal Government to ensure that the killings of Christians in Northern Nigeria stop, even as he warned that Christians could not continue to fold their hands while their fellow Christians were murdered in cold blood in the north every day.

“The government must ensure the peaceful co-existence of all religions in Nigeria without any special favour for any religion, reiterating the fact that “Nigeria is not an Islamic state but a state of many religions which should co-exist in peace and unity.”

Corroborating the Diocesan Bishop, Sir Bonajo Badejo, SAN in his goodwill message said Nigerians live in interesting and challenging times.

He noted that the challenges faced by Nigerians on infrastructure, light, education, health, roads and efficient social services appeared to defy solution.

In spite of the pains of the nation’s economic recession, Sir Badejo expressed optimism as provided by the synod theme, God’s word, my guide.

He, however, admonished Nigerians to trust in God, our Guide because “ no matter how long our suffering and challenges have been, God’s word can surely see us through.”
