‘Five years after my wife gave birth to twins, we had a set of triplets, now we need help’

Published by

Mr Akinloye Adebisi is a father of six children, a singleton, a set of twins and a set of triplets. He speaks with ADEOLU ADEYEMO on the challenges that have come with these blessings for him.

Where are you from and what work do you do for a living?

I am from Inisa in Odo Otin Local Government Area of Osun State. But my family and I are living in Kano. I sell paints and we have been surviving by the grace of God. I have been performing my responsibilities as a father to the best of my ability.

What does it mean to have a set of triplets? How did you feel when you had them?

After our first-born son, we had a set of twins. They are also boys. Then we decided to halt childbearing because of our financial situation.

But my wife got pregnant again five years after the twins and gave birth to a set of triplets, in 2006. They are two girls and a boy.  I was happy to have my triplets, but due to the economic situation in the country, I have found it extremely difficult to care for them properly and I want to appeal to well-meaning Nigerians to come to my aid. The current economic situation has worsened my financial situation and is preventing me from taking adequate care of the triplets’ education.

What help do you need now?

I am not asking for money to feed them. What I am begging for is assistance for the triplets’ education. Our first born is a graduate and the twins are now in 400 level at the University of Ilorin. They will be finishing next year. However, I am incapacitated to sponsor the triplets’ education, and that is why I am begging well-meaning Nigerians to assist me.

The three of them are doing well in their education. They wrote the SSCE (WAEC and NECO) and they passed with flying colours.

The boy among them scored 322 in UTME and has been offered admission by the University of Ilorin to study Computer Engineering.

One of the two girls who wants to study Nursing has also been given admission and I believe that by the grace of God, the other girl will get her admission, too, very soon.

I am appealing to well-to-do people to come to my aid and help to get my triplets through higher education.

Is there any secret to having multiple births? What is your advice in this regard?

God knows how He does His things. There is no secret or magic to having multiple births. I have to note however that my wife is a twin and my younger brothers are twins.
