Five traits you’re a good listener

Good listeners are hard to come by in many conversations because everyone wants to speak at the same time. Being patient enough to listen to what others have to say is a skill you should possess. Here, Tribune Online explains traits you should imbibe to ensure you’re a good listener

You’re Always Focused

You’re just that person that likes to focus on what others are saying during a conversation. You engage with their ideas, ask questions and contribute when necessary. You don’t get distracted; you pay attention to every tiny detail of the conversation and non-verbal cues of other participants.

You Maintain Eye Contact

Maintaining eye contact with the speaker shows your undivided attention to what he or she is saying. You create an impression towards the speaker if what is being said is logical or meaningful. You make the speaker more willing to share and explain thoroughly because of the facial feedback from you.

 You Ask The Appropriate Question

As a good listener, you never miss out a point. When it’s time to ask questions you never go out of context. Your questions are usually polite and add more to the conversation. Afterwards, you listen to what the speaker has to say in return without any interruption.

You’re Patient

When arguments spring up during conversation, you watch in the middle of the noise and come up with a concrete point. You’re not quick to exchange words with other participants. You analyze what everyone has said and you make them see and understand why you agree or disagree with their points.

You’re Mindful Of Your Words

You’re that person that loves to remain calm and mindful of your words to others. Not that you’re not burning inside; you just want to be articulate and make sure your opinion is not interpreted to something else. You don’t like to sway or become ruthless, that’s why you mute during a derogatory altercation.
