Five-storey building collapses in Onitsha

A five-storey building under construction has collapsed at Basden Street, Fegge, in Onitsha, Anambra State. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday while some construction workers were reportedly on the last floor of the building. The structure, intended for commercial purposes upon completion, collapsed, prompting emergency response efforts.

An excavator has been deployed to the site to begin the evacuation of debris and facilitate any potential rescue operations for trapped victims. The reason for the collapse is yet to be ascertained, and details of the incident remain sketchy. As of the time of reporting, one person has been rescued, and rescue operations are ongoing.

Efforts to obtain confirmation and more information from the state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, and the Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, Chinyere Nworah, were unsuccessful as they did not respond to inquiries.
