Five feared dead as suspected rival cult groups clash in Anambra

It was a festival of bloodshed at Ogidi and Ogbunike axis of Idemili-North and Oyi local government areas of Anambra state on Friday, as cult clashes claimed about five persons.
Although the reason for the fierce battle between the cult groups was yet to be ascertained, the police in Anambra state said their rapid response team quelled the battle that would have claimed more lives.
The police public relations officer PPRO, of the Anambra state command, SP Haruna Mohammed, told our correspondent that about three persons were shot dead instantly and have been confirmed dead by medical personnel at the hospital on arrival.
Mohammed said, “It was a cult clash. They equally shot two others at Ogidi. Police patrol teams rushed to the scene and took the victims to Iyenu hospital for medical attention but were certified dead on arrival.
“Meanwhile, the Police are intensifying efforts to apprehend perpetrators in order to bring them to justice.”
However, information from the grapevine has it that about five persons were killed during the clash between the Supreme Vikings Confraternity (Bagas) and some other cult groups over an alleged disagreement not ascertained.
The police are currently on the trail of suspects involved in the faceoff.
