Five dead, seven injured in Ondo road accident

No fewer than five persons lost their lives while seven others sustained injuries in a fatal road accident which occurred around the Akinfosile area along the Ore/Lagos expressway in Ondo state on Saturday.

The lone accident occurred around 4:30 pm on Saturday involving an 18-passenger bus with Reg No FKG 405 FX travelling to Lagos from Akure.

It was gathered that the driver lost control of the vehicle and somersaulted into the bush, with five of the passengers losing their lives instantly, while seven people were seriously injured.

Men of the Ondo state police command at the Akinfosile area, who swung into action, rushed the injured to the hospital while the remains of the dead were deposited at the hospital morgue.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmi Odunlami, who confirmed the incident explained that the vehicle somersaulted and entered the bush while traveling to Lagos.

The PPRO said “The Police have moved the injured victims to the nearest hospital ( Grace of God Hospital) while the dead have been moved to the mortuary of the same hospital.

“Investigation is ongoing to unravel the cause of the accident while effort is on to contact the families of the passengers involved in the accident”

Odulami, however, urged members of the public “to reach out to their relatives who left for Lagos from Akure this morning to check on them to ascertain their status.
