First year in office: We’ve redefined governance in Zamfara — Gov Lawal

Ahead of May 29, 2024, marking his first year anniversary in office, Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, says his administration has redefined governance operations for the better.

Lawal spoke on Monday when he presided over the state’s Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Gusau.

“We have done well so far, by changing the narrative of what the governance is and what the system should be,” Lawal told the Council, according to a statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris.

Lawal said, “we are placing the interest of our people first, redefining the meaning of government by reforming and restructuring institutions and ways of doing business.

“It has not been easy but we are making steady progress.

“We will continue to push through significant reforms that will make the government more efficient and meaningful to the electorate.

“As we approach 28th May 2024, which will mark our first year in office, it is necessary to take stock of what we have done, how far we have delivered on our mandate to the people of the state and what needs to be done to improve performance and delivery of the dividends of democracy as we promised during our electioneering campaigns.”

The statement noted that the Governor reminded members of the challenging tasks ahead in the administration’s rescue mission, admonishing the Council to work as part of a team rather than as individuals.

According to Lawal, “the government will succeed more if everyone works as part of a team rather than individuals and as I have said several times, you must all work in synergy and avoid a silos mentality. Teamwork is the word.”
