The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mrs. Oluremi Ahmed Tinubu, announced the empowerment of 5,000 women out of poverty through her office in Jigawa state.
The First Lady made the disclosure in her speech delivered at the inauguration ceremony of the empowerment group known as “No Woman, No Nation,” Jigawa state chapter, at Ahmadu Bello Hall in Dutse, the state capital.
The First Lady was represented by the chairman of the organisation, Ambassador Akintola Olubasayo, who said the organisation is under the Better Nigeria programme through the office of the First Lady in 36 states across the country.
He explained that the programme is intended to empower millions of women and be the voice of voiceless women across the 36 states of Nigeria.
“Today, we inaugurated the Jigawa chapter of No Women, No Nation under the leadership of Hajiya Zainab Mohammed Pawa as state coordinator, which aims to lift over 5,000 women out of poverty in Jigawa state,” he said.
While delivering her speech, the Jigawa state coordinator of NWNN, Hajiya Zainab Mohammed Pawa, said the organisation is non-religious, non-partisan, and non-profitable, with membership including all categories of Nigerian women such as politicians, civil servants, market women, and full-time housewives.
Pawa identified the objectives of NWNN as women’s organisations, women entrepreneurs, youth development, women empowerment, and assisting widows and orphans.
According to her, the programme will also empower women economically and health-wise through education, health, agriculture, and poverty alleviation programmes.
The state coordinator added that the organisation has a leadership structure that covers all 36 states and the FCT and also extends across 774 local government areas.
She then appreciated the state governor, Malam Umar Namadi, and the good people of Jigawa for the support provided to the association.
