IN its bid to promote consumers’ access to quality healthcare services in Nigeria, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), commissioned a new Amenity Ward at Wesley Guild Hospital Unit of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC) in Ilesa, Osun State.

The ward, which was facilitated by Mr Mathew Gbonjubola, the Coordinating Director of the Compliance and Enforcement Group at the FIRS, brought together the hospital’s top management, officials from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), and other distinguished guests to celebrate this remarkable addition to the hospital’s facilities.

The Executive Chairman of the FIRS, Dr Zacch Adedeji, said the commissioned ward was a testament to FIRS’s commitment to its corporate social responsibility and the well-being of the nation.

Adedeji who was represented by FIRS’s Coordinating Director of Special Duties, Mr Shettimah Tawadi, declared that access to quality healthcare service is a fundamental right of the citizens and the facility will contribute to medical services in the zone, thereby ensuring that no one is left behind regarding quality healthcare.

Dr Adedeji said that the contract for the amenity ward was awarded in December 2021, and it is one of number carefully selected initiatives of the FIRS service to impact people’s health from different regions across the nation to show that they truly paid their taxes

He maintained that the resources generated by FIRS are being used for the growth and development of Nigerians and charged Nigerians to comply with the tax so that the government can continue to deliver on its mandate.

According to him, taxation is the main source of revenue worldwide, and Nigeria is not exceptional.

Earlier, the Chief Medical Director (CMD), OAUTHC, Prof. John Okeniyi, applauded FIRS and the facilitator of the project, declaring that the impact of the ward will be monumental for the 112-year-old hospital.

The CMD explained that the ward has 35 new beds to provide service, the finest purpose built to provide good amenities services that will benefit people’s health.

He confirmed that the facilitator is one out of a thousand that treated in the hospital and came back to show appreciation.

Okeniyi said that there’s nothing too small nor too big to donate to the hospital, especially where nurses are being trained, charged individuals, groups, and  corporate bodies to emulate the kind good gesture.
