An agricultural firm, Seedspike, has reiterated its commitment to building the largest agricultural value-chain network in Africa.
The firm recently made this known in Lagos during the celebration of its first anniversary as an agro start-up.
The Founder and Team Lead of the firm, Ola Oyetade, stressed the urgent need for disruptive changes in the agricultural sector, adding that he is dedicated to reshaping the industry’s perception.
He stated that Seedspike’s mission is to unlock the immense potential of agriculture in the country by addressing the issue of exorbitant food prices, facilitating access to high-quality fresh food, creating employment opportunities, decreasing Nigeria’s extreme dependence on food imports, and advocating for self-sufficiency and food security in Nigeria.
Speaking about the anniversary, Oyetade said it has been an incredible year full of challenges, but they have achieved remarkable results and significant footprints in the sector.
“This milestone symbolises the culmination of our collective efforts to transform agriculture and make a positive difference in the world,” he said. “We are only at the beginning of our journey, and we remain fully committed to building one of the most influential agricultural value-chain networks in this region and beyond, contributing to a sustainable and food-secure future.”
Kunde Nguher Jennifer, the company’s fish farm manager, provided insights into the company’s operations over the past year.
She said they are not only celebrating their first anniversary and significant milestone but also commemorating the journey of their Team Lead, Ola Oyetade, who recently turned 30.
“Transmuting a vision from its idea form on paper into reality requires tremendous effort, and Ola’s ability to inspire and guide our team has been instrumental in our pursuit of excellence,” she said. “We are excited about building upon the strong foundation laid by Ola and achieving even greater accomplishments in the years ahead.”
Damilotun, the co-founder of the firm, noted that within one year, Seedspike has emerged as a leader in sustainable fish farming in Nigeria. He added that he is convinced they have what it takes to revolutionise the perception of agriculture, particularly in this region, transforming it into a viable industry, starting with fish farming.
“This is something the company is actively working towards already,” Damilotun said. “Seedspike sees itself as a change agent, advocating for sustainable food systems, environmental stewardship, technological innovation, economic development, and personal fulfilment.”
According to the firm, some of its notable strides over the last couple of months include the acquisition of arable land in Gboko, Benue State; the harvest and sale of thousands of kilograms of catfish in Moniya, Ibadan, Oyo State; and the firm’s recent relocation to Akobo, Ibadan, where a hatchery facility capable of nursing 1.2 million juveniles was established.
