Published by

IT was an unusual occurrence yesterday for some residents of Chachi, a community around Zuma rock in Dakwa town of Niger State and passersby when fire was spotted at the top of the iconic Zuma Rock.

The fire which created tension, and gridlock along the Madalla expressway according to a resident started around 5pm, Tuesday 23rd this month.

Zuma rock is one of Nigeria’s tourist site which has gained popularity over the years and attracted many tourists to the site in recent times.

According a source source, Nasid Zubair, the fire outbreak at the rock is a yearly occurrence which people have not taken notice of over the years.

“The elders in the community said it happens every year. It happened last year but people didn’t notice it. I asked some elderly men, they confirmed to me that it happens every year”, Zubair said.

Explaining further, the source said “it is because of the heat on the rock, the hotness became too much and resulted in fire outbreak”.

Tribune Online gathered that the fire started after a light shower at the evening of Tuesday, 23rd this month.

As at the time this report was filed, efforts were made by Tribune Online to speak with the Community leader of Dikwa Town but it proved abortive.
