A fire outbreak on Tuesday, March 25, razed a newly constructed female hostel at Sokoto State University (SSU), causing panic within the university community.
The fire, which started around 3:30 p.m., completely engulfed the building, which was recently built to ease accommodation challenges faced by students.
While the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, a student who spoke on the incident stated, “The reason for the fire is still unclear.”
Fortunately, no students were in the hostel at the time of the outbreak, as they had already been relocated following a directive from the university.
“The students who were initially allocated to this hostel had been moved to the old hostel. Only the school authorities can explain the reason for this decision,” the student added.
Confirming the incident, the Students’ Union President stated that firefighters arrived at the scene around 5:00 p.m. and worked to extinguish the flames.
