President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comrade Olatunji Akeem, has described the governor of Adamawa State, Alhaji Ahamdu Umaru Fintiri, as the most Labour-friendly governor in Nigeria.
The president stated this today in Yola during a presentation of an award to Governor Finitri as “the most Labour-friendly governor in Nigeria.”
According to the president, “This award is given to you because you are the first governor to have over the years implemented the N30,000 minimum wage for not only state government workers but also for local government workers in Nigeria.”
Adding to that, before the Supreme Court ruling on local government autonomy, the governor had already set in motion local government elections, which were successfully conducted last weekend.
While commending the government of Adamawa State for settling the pace of involving labour union officials in the governance of the state, Comrade Olatunji Akeem urged the governor to involve more union members in his cabinet as they will add quality to governance.
The governor, Ahamdu Umuru Finitri, while receiving the award, thanked the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) for the recognition and stated that his administration philosophy of no one is left behind and nothing is left untouched remains his guiding principal.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletawpa George Faruta, the governor said, “Be it local government workers or state government workers, it’s my belief that everyone must be carried along.”
“We have been at the forefront of having the people in the locality control who leads them, and that is why in our five years in office as governor, we have conducted three local government elections and even appointed a former NULGE leader as a commissioner, and he is a member of SEC till date.”
