Financial misappropriation: Chartered accountants firm clears Osun college of education bursar

The accusation of financial misappropriation levelled against the Bursar of Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun, Dr Olarewaju Oyedeji might have been laid rest as an audit report of a firm of chartered accountants, cleared him from the misappropriation.

It will be recalled that the state auditor general, Adesina Folorunso, had earlier dragged the bursar before the state House of Assembly and also issued a 21-day ultimatum to produce the misappropriated funds or face the full weight of the law.

But the state House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts had warned the auditor general and the school management to avoid public discussion on the matter until it completes its investigations.

The audit report of the firm, led by Moshood Ganiyu and Co. Chartered accountants, exonerated the bursar from being corrupt financially but commended him for his diligent efforts at sanitising the college.

Meanwhile, concerned indigenes of Ila-Orangun in Ila Local Government Area of Osun State expressed delight on Saturday over clearance of the bursar from alleged financial misappropriation.

The community members who described their son who is the current bursar of the college as a man of integrity posited that they were initially stunned when the accusation came before it was cleared by the chartered accountants firm in its final report after investigations on the matter.

Their spokesperson, Adewale Adeosun in a statement in Osogbo, expressed happiness over the report which they described as a long-expected one and equally charged the state House of Assembly on public account committee investigating the same matter to speed up on its own investigations on the same issue which they believe would also be in his favour.

In his own appeal, the Provost of the institution, Prof Jimoh Afolabi has charged the State House of Assembly to speed up on its report on the College.

According to him, “the House Committee on Public Accounts had in January met with the management of the college and the Auditor General with a view to investigating the financial transactions of the college.

Meanwhile, all calls and messages put across to the committee chairman, Hon Gbenga Ogunkanmi to react to the matter proved abortive as his phone rang repeatedly without being picked.
