Filmmaker, Titi Kuti produces first international film project, ‘Colour of Love’

A Canadian-based Nigerian filmmaker, Titi Kuti, has been honoured with the presence of the Mayor of Brampton, Patrick Brown at the location of his movie, ‘Colour of Love’, which addresses and celebrates the multiculturalism of Canada as a diverse country.

Speaking with Saturday Tribune, Kuti confirmed that he enjoyed “overwhelming feedback” from Canadian and Nigerian audiences, noting that the film has been selected for screening at the forthcoming coming Black History Month, the largest celebration of accomplishments by people of colour in North America, holding in February of 2024.

“Several other festival organisers are expecting to receive the film as an entry for their 2024 calendar when it is ready,” he added

The production was a collaborative effort between Titi Kuti and a Canadian-Nigerian businessman, Oshoke Obozuwa, and was jointly produced By Icon Media Network and Steelbull Synergy. However, Kuti mentioned that they did have great support from the City of Brampton and Mayor Patrick Brown, who granted and approved all the necessary city permits and access to public properties through out the filming.

Speaking on his motivation for producing the movie, Kuti said: “The aim is to the use instrument of the media through film to positively promote love as a principal function of unity in our diversity as far as socio-ethnic growth is concerned. We intend to evolve into an episodic short series with different stories covering real-life experiences that touch on this subject across various ethnicities and demographies resident in North America.”

“Also, such a movie is needed in a time like this,  with all the negative news and events that are happening in Nigeria currently. We need to tell a positive story, change the narratives, and bring a moment of fresh air to all,” he said.

The Mayor, who made a personal appearance on set, emphasised how significantly the theme of the movie is a direct celebration of the mosaic and the diversity Canada represents as a multicultural country, he went further to express his excitement that such a positively impactful project was taking place in his municipality, Brampton.

The film, which is just concluded in Toronto, Canada was directed by Nollywood director Charles Uwagbai, DOP is a Canadian-based Hollywood Cinematographer “Rudolf Blahacek”, and stars Nigerian actors Omoni Oboli, James Jibunma, Mallentino Atafo, and Titi Kuti. It also features several other Canadian actors and the crew consists of various film professionals from diverse ethnic backgrounds.
