Filmmaker Olusanya Prepares for London Premiere

PROMISING filmmaker Segun Temitope Olusanya has announced plans to premiere his latest work, titled “Woven,” in London.

He explained that the growing demand from international fans, particularly in London, is one of the main reasons for showcasing the film—produced in the heart of Lagos—abroad. “They are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to experience the film on the big screen. We’re hosting a London premiere to cater to this interest and expand our film’s global reach,” he stated.

During a recent media event in Lagos, Olusanya expressed concern over the challenges facing Nollywood, despite its significant progress in high-volume production, cultural relevance, and global recognition. He highlighted issues such as limited funding, piracy, and regulatory hurdles.

Looking ahead to 2025, he emphasized the need for the government to implement several key measures to foster growth in the industry. These measures include providing financial support to filmmakers, developing infrastructure, enforcing anti-piracy laws, investing in education and training programs, and encouraging international collaborations to promote Nigerian culture globally.

Olusanya also urged stakeholders to address factors contributing to the perceived decline in the industry, such as rushed production schedules, insufficient training, and an overemphasis on commercial appeal. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that despite these numerous challenges, the industry continues to produce outstanding films that showcase the country’s talent to audiences worldwide.

With over 14 years of experience in the film industry, Olusanya has established himself as a reputable producer and executive producer in Nigeria. He attributes his success to a commitment to unique storytelling, keen attention to detail, adaptability, and, importantly, divine grace. “My journey exemplifies the importance of passion, perseverance, and teamwork. I take pride in being part of this adventure and am eager to see what the future holds for Nigerian film production,” he said.

Olusanya expressed that his passion for filmmaking developed gradually, shaped by early exposure to the industry, strong relationships with professionals, and an innate curiosity and drive. He noted that the rise of streaming platforms such as Netflix and Prime Video has encouraged many producers of TV series to shift their focus toward feature films for greater returns on investment. However, he has chosen to diversify his portfolio by producing both TV series and feature films. “This year, we plan to shoot two feature films, God willing,” he added.
