Film producer says loss of family values partly responsible for rise in crime

A  film producer and director, Benjamin Nwoffia, has said that the breakdown in core family values is partly responsible for the rise in crime rate in the society.

Nwoffia spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) during the premiere of forthcoming movie entitled, “Wedded Single” in Lagos.

He said that the film, which would be released in August, was motivated by the challenges affecting most marriages in contemporary times.

Nwoffia said that the storyline was inspired by the constant cases of breakdown in core family values with the career woman being the major victim.

He said that he conceived the idea, wrote the script, and produced the two-hour family movie with the title: “Wedded Single”.

He added that it was directed by Victory Emuejekarohuo and Nwoffiah Benjamin.

He said, ” Wedded Single’’ treats the issue of silent pain as it affects most marriages.

“It exposes lots of emotionally challenges that are ongoing among individual couples in the society which have spread beyond compare,” he said.

He said that the film showcased an 18-year-old Susan, the only child of Tex and Caro, both in their 40s, who were communication consultants and IT experts respectively.

“Susan, after over 10 years of loneliness, visited her best friend as well as seized the opportunity to rejoice with her friend’s mother who had just been delivered of a baby boy.

“Susan from that moment wished and demanded that her mother, Caro, should give birth to a new baby.

“However, Caro had decided to pursue her career instead of bearing more children.

“The pressure on Caro from Susan reached its climax and became worse when she rejected a teddy bear from her mother.

“Caro packed out of her matrimonial home, and left Susan to be seduced and impregnated by Tony who was Betty’s brother.

“Betty was Caro’s best friend. It was after the deed had been done that Caro became conscious of her actions.’’

He added that Caro had to visit her matrimonial home only to discover that Betty had moved in and became the mistress to Tex, Caro’s husband.

He said that the film also showed that Caro’s sister-in-law, Tina, was annoyed with the ugly development.

NAN reported that “Wedded Single” is a movie that deals with how couples can make efforts to keep a happy home.

The movie establishes that the family is complete when couples begin to bear children leading to the process of building a home.

It also highlights the problem usually faced by wives aspiring to become career women and acquiring societal influence.

The movie also reinforces the fact that the African culture supports African families giving birth to many children.

NAN also reported that “Wedded Single’’ was shot in Ojodu Estate in Lagos State  while Nancy Keshinro, Ijeoma Richards, Lilian Patrick, Chizorba Ihezue and Scott Roberts featured in it.
