Fight against corruption must be from top ― Presidential Committee

PRESIDENTIAL Advisory Committee against corruption has said that fight against corruption will be more effective when it trickles down from top to bottom.

Speaking at a stakeholders meeting, themed, “Value Orientation and Fight against Corruption,” organised by the committee in collaboration with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Ilorin on Tuesday, Executive Secretary of the Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption, Professor Ishaq Radda, said that corruption must be fought squarely to give the common man a new lease of life.

Professor Radda, who said that recent re-direction of funds, directly, to 774 local governments in the country was an issue that requires proper monitoring, adding that leaders in the third tier of government needed to prevent leakages of the resources from going into private pockets.

He also urged Nigerians to join hands in the fight against corruption to save the country from collapse, saying that the fight against corruption must be holistic.

Professor Radda advised members of the public to show interest in the federal government’s campaign against corruption, saying that bulk of the country’s problem would be solved if the fight against corruption is won.

In his remark, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State said that the state government would collaborate with anti-corruption agencies in the country to ensure a corruption-free system.

He appealed to people in the state to join hands with his administration in its effort of running a transparent government.

In his paper presentation titled, “Value re-orientation and the fight against corruption,” the Ilorin zonal head of the EFCC, Isyaku Sharu, advised that people should change their thinking on how to handle the public fund.

He urged the general public to join hands with the present administration to ensure the fight against corruption succeeded.

In his address, the Kwara State Director of the National Orientation Agency, Mr Olusegun Adeyemi, called for redesigning of the educational curriculum to teach the children the need to shun corruption.
