FHC Sharada corner shop owners petition DSS, Police over land dispute

Published by

The committee of corner shop owners at Federal Housing Estate Sharada, Kano, has submitted a petition to Kano State Governor, Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf, stating their concerns over alleged attempts to instigate communal disturbances and fraudulent occupation of their land by suspected fraudsters posing as Federal Housing Authority officials.

Also, the petition was also forwarded to the Honorable Chief Judge of Kano, the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, the Director of DSS Kano Command, and the Zonal Office of the Federal Housing Authority in the North-West Zone, Kano.

According to a petition dated 12th April 2024, signed by Alhaji Sani Maikusa, Committee Chairman, and his Secretary, Alhaji Hafiz Mato, the group alleged that certain tribal chauvinistic Nigerians targeted the corner shops in Kano for confiscation due to greed and desperation.

However, the group expressed dismay at the fraudulent actions of suspects attempting to seize their land, emphasizing that despite their payments and appeals, some individuals within the FHA have failed to uphold their obligations. These individuals have also made recent efforts to deprive them of their titles and reassign title documents to political allies.

In the petition, it clarified that the undersigned hold title to various plots of land designated as corner shops within Sharada Federal Housing Estate, Kano, where they have maintained uninterrupted possession for over 20 years without any third-party claims.

However, the court order reads: “It is sad that despite a valid and subsisting order of Kano High Court by Hon.
Justice Abdu Maiwada Abubakar in suit No. K/137/2023 restraining all the Defendants (Hon. Minister of Works & Housing, Federal Housing Authority, Bureau for Land Management, KANGIS, KNUPDA, Architect Suleiman, Unknown Persons) from forceful taking over of our land.

It added that “some shameless greedy persons have been duping unsuspecting buyers by reselling the same land to them and have engaged some questionable elements to re-draw new beacons on our land”.

The group stated that their peaceful and responsible nature, particularly highlighting that many members are retirees and pensioners, stressing that they are not inclined towards violence.

Conclusively, the submission indicated their resolve to defend their honor and property using all available means.
