FG, Zamfara to leverage state’s mineral resources for economic development

Published by

The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development (MSMD), has pledged to work closely with the Zamfara State Government to harness the state’s mineral resources for economic growth.

During a meeting with Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, stressed the strategic importance of Zamfara to Nigeria’s mining sector. He highlighted the need to remove obstacles that have hindered mining development in the state.

A statement from the Minister’s Special Assistant, Segun Tomori, quoted Dr. Alake as saying, “Zamfara is one of Nigeria’s most resource-rich states, particularly in solid minerals. It is crucial for governments at all levels to collaborate to responsibly exploit these resources, ensuring that the generated revenue benefits both Zamfara residents and Nigerians as a whole.”

Governor Lawal emphasized that his visit was aimed at strengthening cooperation between the federal and state governments in addressing challenges in the mining industry. He noted, “We discussed security concerns and strategies to better utilize our mineral resources for the benefit of both Zamfara and the nation. There is a need to explore the necessary infrastructure to attract investors to solid minerals.”

Recent federal actions to improve the mining landscape in Zamfara have included eliminating key banditry leaders and conducting security operations to foster a safer environment for investment.
