The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Terlumun, has pledged to utilize dams for flood prevention and irrigation across Nigeria fully.
During an evaluation visit to Shagari Dam in Sokoto State, Terlumun, represented by Mrs. Oluwatosin Abiola, Deputy Director of Dams and Reservoirs, highlighted the aging condition of many dams in the country and the need for maintenance.
Following recent flooding in Maiduguri, President Bola Tinubu set up an Inter-Ministerial Technical Committee, led by Terlumun, to assess dam conditions nationwide.

The committee’s inspection aims to ensure the safety and functionality of dams, with the ultimate goal of enhancing food production and flood control.
