FG urged to explore lithium, uranium deposits

The Vice Chairman of Verdant Zeal Group Ltd and Convener of Innovention Series, Dr Tunji Olugbodi, has advised the federal government to explore the abundance of Lithium and Uranium deposits in some states of the federation to address the issue of economic quagmire confronting it.

Olugbodi, a marketing communications expert, stated this while delivering the Open Lecture of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) Ago Iwoye, with the theme: ‘Collaborative Innovation: Bridging The Knowledge Gap Between Industry and Academia,’ held at the university campus, Ago-Iwoye, last week.

He noted that the solid materials that are used for making batteries in this era of Electronic Vehicles(EVs), are in commercial quantities in Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Ekiti and Cross River States.

Olugbodi stated that tapping into these deposits would be one of the fastest keys for the country to step into prosperity.

While admonishing the Federal Government to leverage the potential to address youth unemployment, noting that the socioeconomic challenges and injuries plaguing the country today were self-inflicted.

He cited the entertainment export where the nation’s young musicians such as Burna Boy, Wizkid, Rema, Tems, Davido Asake among others have brought recognition and laurels to the country.

“Indicators of what can happen if we adopt the right orientation are already showing in entertainment export and the influence that this is garnering all over the world.

“We have earned better global recognition through the combined exploits of Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid, Rema, Tems and Tiwa Savage, to mention but a few, than we have received from all the political leaders since 1999,” he added.

The Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, OOU, Prof. Dele Odunlami, in his remarks, said the lecture which happened to be the second edition was meant to generate ideas and project them for national discourse towards finding solutions to national challenges.
