The training of 100 unemployed graduates from the South-Eastern region of Nigeria in poultry production, have commenced at the Federal College of Horticulture Dadin-Kowa in Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State.
The programme according to the Provost of the College, Professor Fatima Sawa was initiated by the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in partnership with the Senate Committee on Agriculture.
Speaking at the training exercise flag-off, Prof. Fatima noted that the aim of the training is to empower unemployed youths and women, making them independent and employers of labour, which in turn will ensure food security in the country.
She admonished participant of the training to overlook the situation of the college and embrace the outcome of the training because, after the training, each participant would be given a starter pack to begin his or her business venture.
She also revealed that, the College have lined up 27 training sessions to be conducted this year, adding that the ongoing training is the 8th batch while the subsequent training would be on Post-harvest processing, Orchard, Fisheries among other areas.
She further applauded the Federal Government for such initiative, adding that it will aid the reduction of social vices especially among unemployed people.
Consultant from Houge Logistic Limited, Port Harcourt, Mr. Steven Umr, a facilitator at the training, said that the Poultry Management, Poultry Disease, Packaging and Marketing, and Agric Ecology would be treated during the four-day training. He, therefore, urged participant to pay attention for full benefits.
