As part of the effort to boost rice production in Kaduna state, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is engaging 50 youths including women in rice production.
The participants who were drawn from the three Senatorial districts of the state will be exposed to rice production techniques during the training.
It was also gathered that at the end of the programme, the participants will be given rice seedlings and a token to assist them in farming.
Speaking during the three-day training at the Federal Co-operative College on Friday, the Co-ordinator, Mr Rotimi Abolarin said the aim of the programme is essential to assist our teeming unemployed youths to be self-reliant.
“Since the federal government is concerned about diversifying the economy especially in agriculture, some youths were selected across the state to take up into rice farming.
“We will train them and give them seedlings and a token at the end of the training .
Declaring the training open, the Provost of the Federal Co-operative College, Hajiya Aisha Ismail told the participants to feel free and learn what they will be taught during the training.
According to the provost, Kaduna is a liberal state and peaceful, pleading with them to use the knowledge gain judiciously.
