FG to flag off Calabar end of Lagos coastal highway April 14

The Federal Government is set to launch the Calabar segment of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway on April 14, as announced by the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi.

The announcement was made during a stakeholders’ meeting regarding the ongoing construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, which took place on April 6, at the Orchid Hall, Eko Hotel, organised by the Federal Ministry of Works.

The minister stressed that the coastal highway will act as a critical evacuation route, offering significant social and economic benefits in areas such as tourism, trade, agriculture, and aquaculture, in addition to enhancing maritime services.

He highlighted numerous advantages of the investment, stating, “We will implement CCTV on the roads to ensure that response times to incidents are under five minutes.

“Our concrete road pavements will contribute to reduced carbon emissions compared to other materials and we will utilise solar energy as part of our commitment to end carbon credits. Additionally, we plan to plant trees on the route.”

While praising Nigerians for their support of the Renewed Hope road infrastructure initiatives, particularly in recognising these legacy projects as essential for national development and improving living standards.

He reassured them of the president’s commitment to completing the awarded projects in a timely manner.
