The President of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso, Alumni Assocoiation, Mr Jide Bewaji on Thursday said if the financial challenges, bedeviling the institution persists, the federal government should take over the University from Oyo and Osun states.

Addressing a press conference on the current crisis, rocking the institution, Bewaji urged the owner’s states of LAUTECH to fulfill their monthly financial obligations to the university, saying no efforts must be spared in ensuring the survival of the institution.

He stated that “we understand the financial crisis, being faced by states of the federation, if Osun and Oyo cannot fulfill their monthly financial obligations 100%, they should make it 50%, which would consistent. We are appealing to the Visitors to the institution, Governor Isiaka Ajimobi and Governor Rauf Aregbesola not to allow LAUTECH to die.”

According to Bewaji, “as soon as the economies and finance of Oyo and Osun improves, they should fulfill financial obligation, by making their monetary subvention available regularly. We are also imploring the Chancellor of the university, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene, by making an indelible mark, capable of restoring the lost glory of the institution.”

“In case this perennial financial challenges persists, we want the federal government to take over LAUTECH”, Bewaji remarked.

While recalling that crisis began in the institution about three years ago, the president of LAUTECH alumni association said the management of the university was then using its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to fund its operations, lamenting that “now the IGR can no longer sustain the institution.”

Bewaji, however, chided some fractions of the students in the university, who he claimed last Thursday went on rampage, displaying the obituary of the incumbent Vice Chancellor, Professor Adeniyi Sulaiman Gbadegesin, stressing that he was not the cause of the crisis in the institution.
