Minister of Education, Maruf Alausa
The Federal Ministry of Education has suspended a staff member of one of the colleges allegedly involved in immoral communication with an ex-female student, describing the ugly incident as “totally unacceptable”.
Director, Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Education, Mrs Folasade Boriowo who made this known in a statement in Abuja, said the alleged suspect has been handed over to the relevant authorities for investigation and prosecution.
The Federal Government’s action was in response to a video currently circulating online which showed a college staff member engaging in an immoral video conversation with a former female student.
“The Federal Ministry of Education is deeply disturbed by a recent video circulating on the internet, which shows a staff of one of the colleges engaging in an immoral video communication with an ex-female student. This is totally unacceptable.
“The Ministry has taken immediate action by suspending the staff pending further investigation and necessary disciplinary actions. The alleged suspect has been handed over to the relevant authorities for investigation and prosecution,” Boriowo stated.
According to the statement, the unnamed teacher has been banned from entering or having any access to the school premises.
“We assure the public that a thorough investigation will be carried out to address this unwholesome behavior.
“The Ministry strongly condemns all illegal acts and immoral behaviours that compromise the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of present, past, and future students.
“We reaffirm our commitment to providing a safe and protective learning environment for all students. We will continue to work with relevant authorities to ensure that perpetrators of such acts are brought to justice,” the Ministry stated.
The Ministry, however, appealed to the public, particularly parents and guardians, to cooperate with it in addressing such matters, while also urging anyone with vital information or evidence related to this and other incidents to report such inappropriate acts to the authorities.
