FG, Sokoto govt to establish military camp in Sabon Birni

As part of measures to curtail insecurity in Sokoto State, the state government is set to collaborate with the federal government in establishing a military camp in the Sabon Birni local government area of the state.

The state Deputy Governor, Idris Muhammad Gobir, disclosed this while addressing a gathering at Sabon Fegi in Sabon Birni town on Tuesday.

Gobir said when approved, “a military camp will be established in one of the 3 towns experiencing frequent banditry attacks.

“The towns are Burkusuma, Dama and Magira.”

He said consultation to that effect has reached an advanced stage. This he said would seriously check the frequent attacks being carried out by Bandits in the area.

The deputy governor therefore implored the people of Sokoto East Senatorial District to shun rumours on security issues in the area, describing the fabricators as unpatriotic.

While reiterating the commitment of the Ahmad Aliyu-led administration in the fight against banditry, he called on them to remain patriotic and united as well as security conscious in the fight against banditry.

In a statement signed by Garba Mohammed, Director of Press at the Deputy governor’s office, Idris used the opportunity to announce that the contractor handling the construction of Tsululu road in Sabon Birni would relocate to the site for the completion of the project.

He commended the people for their continued support of the government.

In their separate remarks, the Sole Administrator of Sabon Birni local government, Alhaji  Garba Umar Kaba, and his Isa local government counterpart, Alhaji Isah  Mohammed, said significant success was being recorded in the fight against banditry in the zone.

According to them, that has contributed to the reduction of the number of banditry attacks.

They therefore called for the sustenance of the efforts.

The two sole administrators acknowledged the state government and the personal efforts of the deputy governor in confronting the situation.
