FG signs MoU with Lagos govt to establish FMC at Epe General Hospital

The Federal government, on Thursday, signed a MOU with the Lagos State Government to officially make the General Hospital Epe the site for the newly established Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Epe, in a move to serve the rapidly growing population of Epe and its communities advanced medical facility.

Minister of State of Health, Dr Tunji Alausa, said at the ceremony that the newly established FMC Epe is a significant milestone for the people of Epe and Lagos State and a testament to the vision and leadership of President Bola Tinubu to improve the lives of Nigerians across all sectors, especially healthcare.

According to him, the FMC Epe was born at the request of the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was borne of the necessity for an advanced medical facility to serve the rapidly growing population of Epe and its communities.

The Minister declared: “Epe’s strategic location, coupled with its expanding population, has made the new FMC Epe imperative. Our people deserve access to quality healthcare, and I am proud to say that today we are making great strides towards ensuring that they receive it.”

The Minister also announced a School of Nursing for the training of nurses and midwives in Epe to take off next year and the Federal College of Complementary and Alternative Medicines (FEDCAM) for Ilara Igboye.

“This is to take advantage of the new FMC Epe when students from FEDCAM will have their clinical posting,” he added.

According to the Minister, the courses that will be offered at FEDCAM will include acupuncture, naturopathy, homoeopathy, chiropractic medicine, osteopathy, and herbal medicine.

“The College of Nursing and FEDCAM will offer more opportunities for our youths to undertake these studies and become professionals in these fields of complementary and alternative medicine.

“There are numerous job opportunities for these lines of professionals both here in Nigeria and all over the world. This would make Lagos State the hub for this unique training in the country and the West Africa region.

“The establishment of this FMC Epe is poised to bring not only improved health outcomes but also numerous socioeconomic benefits to the area. It will stimulate local businesses, create employment opportunities for our people, and attract a wide range of healthcare professionals to Epe, thereby enriching the local economy and enhancing the well-being of the residents.

“This is in line with the vision of the renewed hope agenda of President Tinubu’s administration, which is focused on improving the lives of Nigerians across all sectors, especially healthcare.

“I would like to express my profound gratitude to his Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, for his unwavering commitment to improving healthcare across Nigeria and for his continued love and dedication to Lagos State. His support for this project is a reflection of his deep understanding of the healthcare needs of our people and his resolve to address them.”

Dr Alausa, who praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for his foresight and dedication to the welfare of the people of Lagos, said his proactive approach in securing this federal institution for Epe will undoubtedly leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.
