FG should ensure the release of 100 abducted Zamfara farmers

Published by

I want to, on behalf of all the farmers across the 36 states of the federation, plead with President Bola Tinubu to fastrack the release of the 100 innocent Zamfara farmers abducted by gunmen on the 24th day of November, 2023 while working on their farms.

The said gunmen had earlier imposed N110 million levy on the farmers and warned them to either pay the levy or risk being kidnapped should they fail to comply.

These gunmen have continued to mount pressure on the family members of the abducted farmers to go and raise the sum of N110 million.

Nigerian farmers are worried about the incessant kidnapping of fellow farmers while working on their farms.

President Tinubu should set up special security outfit across the nation basically to protect Nigerian farmers from being kidnapped while working on their farms. We can’t fold up our hands and keep watching these gunmen to continue kidnapping our farmers.

People have jettisoned their ambitions of becoming farmers for fear of being kidnapped.

It has been said and written many times on the editorial page of Nigerian Tribune newspaper that the Federal Government should beef up security around our farms. It is the duty of the Federal Government to protect the lives and property of our farmers.

One person who can help the abducted Zamfara State farmers to regain their freedom at this moment is President Bola Tinubu. I don’t think their family members can raise the said N110 million during this period of hardship facing many Nigerians.

The Federal Government must not allow anything evil to happen to these farmers. Nigerians want them to be released unhurt.  The president should fast track their release without any further delay.
