FG, revamp agriculture

Published by

For Nigeria to be developed, it needs to focus on agriculture. Meeting other needs depends a lot on agriculture. In the past, the military administration of General Olusegun Obasanjo introduced the Operation Feed the Nation (OFN) programme; the Shehu Shagari civilian administration initiated the Green Revolution programme, while the Ibrahim Babangida brought the DFFRI programme.

All these programmes were aimed at developing agriculture in the country and ensuring food security. Now, government should embark on certain policies like subsidising fertilizers and chemicals. All development and commercial banks should make loans available to farmers at minimal interest rates. Agric research centres should also be developed.
