FG releases funds for NASU salaries, retirees’ benefits

Published by

The Federal Government has disbursed funds to cover outstanding salaries for members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Federal Universities (NASU).

The fund will also provide retirement benefits for retirees under the Nigerian Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme.

This was confirmed in a statement on Saturday, released by Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF). According to the statement, payments to NASU members had begun, with many recipients acknowledging receipt.

“The Federal Government has released funds for the payment of withheld salaries to Non-Academic Staff Union of Federal Universities,” the statement partly read.

The OAGF further noted, “Funds have also been allocated for the payment of benefits to retirees under the Nigerian Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme Sector.”

The statement also highlighted that “payments to the Non-Academic Staff of Federal Universities had commenced, with many confirming receipt.”

This move aligns with the government’s commitment to the welfare of both current workers and retirees.

Recall that Tribune Online, on Monday, reports that the Joint Action Committee of SSANU and NASU has declared indefinite strike to demand four months of unpaid salaries. Since the strike began, activities across the nation’s universities have come to a standstill.
