Barely 24 hours after the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) warned against interference in the selection process of the 4th session of the Nigerian Youth Parliament (NYP), the Federal Government (FG) has postponed indefinitely, the inauguration.
The student body had on Tuesday, vowed to resist any form of interference from the Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, in the selection exercise.
NANs Public Relations Officer, Azeez Adeyemi, who gave the warning at a briefing in Abuja, said it will resist any action either from the minister or any officer of the ministry which may hinder the selection.

“The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students wishes to use this medium to call on the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development and the Minister, Bar. Solomon Dalung, not to interfere in the selection of the leadership of the Fourth Session of the Nigerian Youth Parliament.
“As the intellectual component of the youth demography, we will resist any attempt by the Minister or any official of the Ministry to influence the selection process of the leadership of this NYP Forth session bill to be inaugurated next week,” he said.
He expressed disappointments at the Minister’s method of handling youth-related issues especially his inability to address the crisis bedeviling the NYCN in his three years in office.
However, in a statement issued on Wednesday by Nneka Anibeze, media aide to the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Barr. Solomon Dalung, the (FG) announced a postponement of the inauguration till further notice.
It stated that the nominated members comprising 2 male and 1 female from each state were due to be inaugurated on Thursday, January 24th, 2019.
To this end, the Youth Parliamentarians were urged to wait for further directives from the Ministry, adding that a new date will be communicated.
