The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced its intention to collaborate with the Trans Sahara Consortium on ambitious Soybean and Sugar Projects, reaffirming its commitment to transforming the country’s agricultural sector.
The initiative aims to cultivate three million hectares of soybean and establish sugarcane processing plants, targeting the production of millions of tons of sugar for both domestic consumption and export.
During a meeting in Abuja on Monday, Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, met with a delegation from Trans Sahara Consortium Limited, led by Chairman Senator Ibrahim Turak.
The discussions centered around the Consortium’s plans, which are expected to significantly enhance Nigeria’s agro-industry and address the ongoing trade deficit.

According to a statement from Mohammed Manga, Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr. Edun emphasized the project’s potential to revolutionize Nigeria’s agricultural landscape. He stated, “We are committed to supporting innovative projects that drive economic growth, promote food security, and empower Nigerian farmers.”
The Minister described the partnership as a crucial step toward achieving the government’s vision of a prosperous Nigeria, asserting that the administration will work closely with the Trans Sahara Consortium to ensure the successful implementation of these projects.
Mr. Edun’s announcement reflects the current administration’s commitment to transforming the agricultural sector, with a focus on boosting food security, reducing trade deficits, and empowering local farmers. He noted, “This initiative marks a significant milestone in our journey towards a prosperous Nigeria, as we look forward to witnessing the tangible impact of this collaboration.”
He further stressed the importance of this partnership, stating, “Together, we are sowing the seeds of a brighter future for our nation,” highlighting the potential benefits for millions of citizens across the country.
“We must deny these groups the undue publicity they crave,” the minister said.
