FG, Oyo govt laud recycling firm for empowering 97 youths

The Federal Government and the Oyo State government have applauded the initiative of an integrated waste recycling and manufacturing firm, Planet 3R, in providing educational and training support for 97 youths in Oyo State on the waste-to-wealth initiative.

The empowerment initiative, according to the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola goes beyond simply advocating for recycling.

He said this in Ibadan at the first batch of the Transform West Africa Project and product demonstration and certification ceremony.

The event witnessed an exhibition of locally made recycled products by 97 students of the initiative, who went through six weeks of training on recycling.

Represented by the Director, Environmental Health Services, Mrs. Bukola Areo, the Commissioner reaffirmed the Oyo State Government’s commitment to sustainable waste management and environmental conservation.

“Our government is continuously working to implement policies that promote recycling, waste-to-wealth initiatives, and environmental education,” she said.

The Commissioner said the Oyo state government recognises the importance of partnerships in achieving laudable goals, assuring Planet 3R that the Oyo State government will partner with it, to expand the impact of the initiative.

The Manager, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Oyo state office, Mrs. Iyabo Ojogbede indicated the Agency’s willingness to partner with the recycling firm in future programs that align with the agency’s goals and objectives.

She applauded Panet 3R for the youth and women empowerment, and pledged continued support.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Oyo State Youth Development Agency, Mr. Falana Adebowale congratulated the participants, saying the Agency looks forward to the remarkable partnership with Planet 3R, and others in the private sector, to empower youths in the State.

The Managing Director, Planet 3R Limited, Ms. Adejoke Lasisi stated that Planet 3R hopes to expand its operations beyond the shores of Ibadan.

She said the company remains focused on creating a sustainable future where economic development and environmental stewardship go hand in hand.

Lasisi said, “Our goal at Planet 3R is to create a future where sustainability and social impact go hand in hand. Through partnerships with government and international partners, we are not only turning waste into resources but also addressing critical needs in economic empowerment.”

She called on various sectors of the economy to rise to the challenge of setting up platforms to drive the recovery and recycling of waste items in the country.

The event witnessed demonstration of recycled products made from pure water nylons, textile materials, Jean materials, among others.
