ILLUMINATION cannot be substituted with darkness as nothing good can thrive amidst darkness. The Almighty God had mandated this as He said in His Word: “Let there be light and there has been light everywhere till now!
The University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, has been existing for more than six decades. Over the years, the management of the hospital had intensified efforts to rescue people from untimely death.
In recent times, however, many lives have been lost due to prolonged power outage in the hospital and nothing has been done by the stakeholders till now.
The fact is that health sector is a sensitive area that should be given priority attention by the Presidency as it has to do with lives of the people.
UCH used to be the best among other West African hospitals. Some African leaders were successfully treated for various infirmities in the hospital few decades ago. It is pertinent to revive the glory of the hospital as the environment is no longer conducive for the workers and College of Medicine students.
In recent times, many patients were forcefully moved out of their various wards owing to the lack of power supply that actually halted doctors and nurses from performing their civic duties. Apparently, the doctors had made strenuous efforts to fulfill the obligations of the Hippocratic Oath. They have been attending to patients despite the power outage in the hospital.
While the intervention of the Minister of Power of recent is well appreciated, I urge the Presidency to permanently address the issue of power outage in UCH as there is limitation to the usage of solar power and generators when it comes to power supply to carry out its day-to-day activities.
