FG, Kebbi govt partner on irrigation farming

Kebbi Governor, Comrade Nasiru Idris has stated that the Federal Government in collaboration with Kebbi Government planned to supply petroleum to farmers free-of-charge for irrigation purposes to boost agricultural activities across the state.

Governor Idris made this known while flagging-off the All Progressives Congress (APC) camping for bye-election in Yauri/Shanga/Naski federal constituency which took place in Shanga Local Government Area of the state on Saturday.

“The Kebbi State Government in collaboration with the Federal Government has concluded arrangement to supply petrol to farmers for dry season farming free-of-charge.”

The governor said they sat down with the former governor and now Minister of Economic Planning, Sen. Abubakar Atiku-Bagudu and reached an agreement on how to effectively accomplish the mission, saying that the gesture was with a view to boosting farming activities across the state.

The governor said, his administration would distribute 12,000 solar powered water pumps to farmers and had already distributed 6,000 to them to increase their yields, as State Government will purchase another 20,000 units of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered water pumps as a back-up to the solar pumps to increase the number of benefiting farmers in the state,” he said.

While encouraging the farmers to redouble their efforts in their farming activities, the governor observed that such efforts would enable them maintain their lead in food production for national food security.

Idris encouraged the people of Yauri/Shanga/Ngaski federal constituency to come out en mass and vote for APC candidate in the forthcoming bye election for the area to record more dividends of democracy.

In his speech, the APC Chairman in the state, Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru presented the APC candidate, Alhaji Garba Umar-Uba to the governor who issued the party’s flag to him, symbolising the formal flagg-off and presented the candidate to the general public.
